ANHEUSER-BUSCH NEWARK BREWERY RECEIVES NATIONAL SAFETY COUNCIL AWARD

Excellence Achievement Award Recognizes Brewery’s Safety Record

Newark, N.J. (Feb. 9, 2007) – The National Safety Council (NSC) has given its “Excellence Achievement” award to the Anheuser-Busch Newark brewery. The award recognizes companies and facilities that have reported injuries and illnesses that involved days away from work (work-related cases with lost time as a result of injuries or illnesses) equal to or less than 50 percent compared to similar industries.

“We emphasize safety in everything we do, and we’re proud of our Newark brewery employees for taking this message to heart,” said Peter Kraemer, vice president of operations for Anheuser-Busch, Inc.

All Anheuser-Busch brewery employees undergo extensive ongoing safety training in a wide variety of areas, including ergonomics, safety procedures and protective gear. The Newark brewery has achieved a number of safety milestones, including the completion of 1 million man hours without a lost-time accident. In addition, the Newark brewery received seven Governor’s Occupational Safety Awards in 2006. These awards included six departmental awards for zero lost time accidents. The Newark brewery also proudly accepted the New Jersey Beacon of Safety award. This award is presented to a select few role models of safety in the state.

The Newark brewery sponsors a variety of wellness events each year for employees. Some of the activities this year included risk factor screenings for cardiovascular disease and diabetes; and primary care provider visits. The programs are designed to promote health and fitness for employees through education, prevention and early detection programs.

As a result of these initiatives, the Newark brewery is proud to submit a Well Workplace award application to the Wellness Council of America 2006.

The NSC is a nonprofit, non-governmental, international public service organization dedicated to protecting life and promoting health. Founded in 1913 and chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1953, the NSC’s mission is to educate, protect, and influence society to adopt safety practices that prevent and mitigate human suffering and economic losses at work, in our homes and communities and on our roads and highways.

Anheuser-Busch Companies became a member company of the NSC on December 1, 1927. The NSC started the current awards program in 2000, and Anheuser-Busch has participated with the National Safety Awards program since 2001.

Based in St. Louis, Anheuser Busch is the leading American brewer, holding a 48.8 percent share of U.S. beer sales. The company brews the world’s largest-selling beers, Budweiser and Bud Light, as well as Budweiser Select. Anheuser Busch also owns a 50 percent share in Grupo Modelo, Mexico’s leading brewer, and a 27 percent share in China brewer Tsingtao, whose namesake beer brand is the country’s best-selling premium beer. Anheuser-Busch ranked No. 1 among beverage companies in FORTUNE Magazine’s Most Admired U.S. and Global Companies lists in 2006. Anheuser Busch is one of the largest theme park operators in the United States, is a major manufacturer of aluminum cans and one of the world’s largest recyclers of aluminum cans.
